Visit from Isaiah (oh and Anya and Nick were here too, of course)

Flying baby

They say that daddy play, unlike typical mommy play, develops babies' vestibulary system.

One can see why!

But I think it develops her social brain too.

One warm day...

...last weekend was all it took for the Gardens to start gardening again.

Some of our chard came back from last fall.

Henry sows more cover crop, since we'll be abroad for much of the growing season. Not all in one place!

That's better.

Sitting up

She can't sit herself up yet, but if you help her get there, she can stay upright for about 10-15 mins.

My favorite ploy is to give her a basket of small soft toys to unload and explore. (Thanks to Amahl & Nidal for the beautiful mantis and dragon finger puppets!)

Of course, it also helps if someone is there to entertain her. Henry's her favorite.

A good stalling tactic when she's already dressed and waiting for us to get our coats on. (It's gotten chilly again.)

Passport application for our upcoming May-July trip to Morocco...

I think she'll enjoy it.

Sean's birthday

Sunday (unusually busy social calendar last weekend): birthday brunch for Sean.

Esti borrowed Baby Philip's high chair. Actually he is not such a baby anymore.

See? That's him on the right. Gretchen is heroically reading Richard Scarry to everyone.

Veronica chatted hospitably with Esti.

Kids!

Photographers

Also on Saturday, Henry had some fun with our camera. His first self-portrait.

His picture of my cousin Andrew, himself a wonderful photographer.

(Yes, they took pictures of each other taking pictures of each other.)

Lining up a portrait of me with swaddled Esti. (This photo by Andrew.)

More from Paul & Sophia

Henry was a trooper, even though the party went kinda late.

A few songs between courses...

Esti eventually went to sleep, swaddled in a receiving blanket that my aunt Sophia had saved from my cousin Daniel (here he is now, in high school!).

But Henry hung out with us (except a short break to watch a piece of a nature documentary in a back bedroom: I had hoped it would put him to sleep, but he emerged, saying "Did you know that when it's really hot, kangaroos lick themselves, and as their saliva evaporates, it cools their bloodstream?") and even danced a little.
