Ana Paula just sent a few photos from back in August, when she watched Henry for a couple of weeks. Among other things, they went to the Science Museum.

Cool machine!

I will have to show him this picture -- I think he will be much amused. At daycare they just finished a 3-week-long curriculum unit on camping, hiking, and the outdoors. They brainstormed about items you'd need for camping (#1: tent; #2: marshmallows), made s'mores in Deb's back yard, drew trail maps, studied animal tracks, and practiced spotting pretend bears with toilet-paper-tube binoculars. Today, along with a bunch of the parents (including me), they went on a beautiful 2-hour hike in the woods, and one of the kids would occasionally shout: "Look, a bear!" to which another kid would say, "For real?" and the bear-spotter would answer, "No, for pretend!" and everyone would keep on hiking.
So much for the claim that kids can't tell fantasy from reality. It would be no fun to play pretend if they couldn't.
